    Patrizia Reggiani

Italian socialite and criminal (born 1948)

Not to be confused with Paolo Gucci's daughter, Patrizia Gucci, or Aldo Gucci's daughter, Patricia Gucci.

Patrizia Reggiani (Italian:[paˈtrittsjaredˈdʒaːni]; néeMartinelli; born 2 December 1948) is an Italian convicted criminal and former socialite. She was convicted in a highly publicized trial of hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci.

Early life and marriage to Maurizio Gucci

    [edit]

Patrizia Martinelli was born in Vignola, Province of Modena, in Northern Italy. When Patrizia was 12, her mother Silvana married wealthy entrepreneur Ferdinando Reggiani, who later adopted Patrizia.[2][3]

When she was about 22, Patrizia met Maurizio Gucci, heir to the Gucci fashion house, at a party in 1970.[4] On 28 October 1972 the couple married and moved to New York City.[5][6] Gucci's father, Rodolfo Gucci, initially did not approve of the marriage, as he believed Patrizia was "a social climber who had nothing in mind but money," but he gifted his son and daughter-in-law with a luxury penthouse in New York's Olympic Tower.[7][8] Patrizia became active in New York social circles, making regular appearances at parties and fash

After all, that was the date that her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci, grandson of Guccio Gucci, the founder of the Gucci fashion empire, was killed in cold blood. In 1998, Reggiani was convicted and sentenced to 29 years in prison for ordering his murder. Though she denied responsibility for the crime throughout the entire trial, she admitted she was behind it not long after being released in 2014.

It was the kind of scandal that played out like a melodramatic soap opera, complete with wealthy heirs, secret affairs and a fashionista with a flair for words and a penchant for carrying a parrot on her shoulder.

They were the ultimate jet-setting couple

Reggiani was born outside Milan to a waitress mother and trucking businessman father, growing up quite rich and running around in elite circles, where she first met Maurizio. “I didn’t think much of him at first,” she told The Guardian in 2016. “He was just the quiet boy whose teeth crossed over at the front.”

But eventually they fell in love and married when they were both 24, in 1972. Togeth
