    Raymundus Joannes de Kremer of Raymond Jean de Kremer schreef onder de pseudoniemen Jean Ray en John Flanders honderden fantastische verhalen bijeen.

    Als Jean Ray schreef hij in het Frans voor volwassenen; voor zijn Nederlandse jeugdverhalen gebruikte hij meestal de naam John Flanders.

    Frans- en Nederlandstalige auteur van (meestal fantastische) romans en verhalen, detectives, sprookjes, scenario’s voor stripverhalen, gedichten en liederen. Bovendien schreef hij teksten voor revues en honderden columns en journalistieke bijdragen over folklore.

    Voorts hanteerde hij talrijke andere pseudoniemen (Tiger Jack, R.M. Temple, John Sailor, Kapitein Bill, Alice Sauton…) en publiceerde hij veelvuldig anoniem (o.m. zijn Harry Dickson-verhalen). Qua vorm gaat zijn oeuvre van het superkorte verhaal (tien regels en alles is gezegd) tot lijvige romans.
